Animation Production – 80% (approximately 2 minutes)
Students are to complete an animation production, or a combination of live action and animation, for delivery to the appropriate playable delivery format. Emphasis is placed on creating a workflow that efficiently takes the production from animatic to final delivery, utilising the appropriate file management processes.
Students may complete a variety of roles (editing, compositing, sound design) across several productions in order to fulfil the criteria for assessment.
The length of the production may be negotiated with teaching staff and is dependent upon variables such as the complexity of animated scenes and the size of the post-production crew.
Two milestones and a final delivery date are negotiated with teaching staff. The ability to meet each of the three deadlines constitutes a part of the assessment requirement.
Journal – 10%
Each student continues to keep their production journal during the post-production stage of the major project. This journal may be in the form of a written document, a weblog, a video diary or other form that is agreed upon with teaching staff. The journal is a weekly account of their participation in the project, activities and tasks completed, skills acquired and practiced and any other relevant information. Students are also expected to reflect on the group processes, interactions and collaborations observed or experienced during the week.
Students are required to compile a short review of the post-production process using material from the journal. The review examines each student’s practical experience, identifying every aspect of the editing and finishing process. The review is to focus on the strengths and weakness in the raw material they were given, the nature of their own strengths and weakness in their particular post-production role and the steps they took to address both areas. Important components of the review are: a time line of the post-production process; a section on working with the director in post-production; and an evaluation of any other aspect of their post-production work. Each student must complete a final review that is a maximum of 500 words or equivalent.
Participation – 10%
Students are asked to commit throughout the duration of the subject to producing the project to the best of their ability. This assessment takes into account each student’s enthusiasm, commitment to task, ability to collaborate and interact successfully, as well as their attendance levels. This assessment is ongoing and encompasses the student’s development throughout the delivery of the subject.
